Located in Santa Clara, Kabob and Curry is popular for its authentic food crafting. Yet, Mr. Usman, the owner of the restaurant seeks to re-decorate his joint with modern ideas that can interpret their traditions. To cope with Mr. Usman’s vision, we have adopted the “less is more” design philosophy. “Less is more” is a post-modern design concept, which emphasizes simplicity and order. With simplified design features, guests are able to relax and enjoy the refreshing atmosphere of India. To “simplify” the traditional elements, we used 2×6 studs to replace conventional decorative moldings, and incorporated straight lines to express order rather than reusing the geometry of traditional Chandrashalas. To reflect the traditional elements, we incorporated hand crafted decors, metallic mosaics, and vibrant colors to outline the beauty and of Indian artistry. A hand crafted logo with cursive fonts becomes an eye catching focal point to call out the brand name and the culture of the restaurant. After the remodel, Kabob and Curry becomes an ethnic friendly restaurant where every day diners can enjoy their authentic Indian meals in the neighborhood.
